Watch out for parking tickets in St. John's

Clearly marked on the tourist maps are all these parking zones.
Then you discover the majority are for permit holders.
This was confirmed with the women ticketing officer we asked.

So we meter park.

I get a ticket as I'm 30 minutes late - my choice was to either hurry up my lunch guest, a local food writer, or to rush out and feed the meter.
The lunch guest won.

$15 - hmm, that's like paying for a few hours of parking in Toronto.
